It’s been three months since the Arts Market was last open in Moseley and the world has changed a lot since December. It’s never been easy making things and selling them for a living and it seems I’ve not been the only trader who’s spent the early part of this year increasing web presence, offering new services and generally finding other ways to use their skills rather than making new stock. So with an air of uncertainty we set about displaying our reliable best sellers and wondering how our, although unique and handmade, admitedly non-essential luxury products, might sell this year.
It was good then to hear people say how nice it was to have us back and that they had become so used to us over the last year that Farmers Market day in January and February, it hadn’t seemed the same without the Arts Market on the other side of the road. And we were pleased, not just to be back ourselves but also to introduce a few new makers to the market and to Moseley. We aim to reserve space for a few guests and new traders every month to keep things fresh and offer more choice. Joining us for the first time in March was Victoria Baume of Faery Kisses, who’s entire body of work is inspired by her fascination with Faery myths and folklore, and Hannah Barnett of Miss Crofton, the first maker we’ve had specialising in pants!
Despite the weather and Moseley seeming all in all fairly quiet, there were still people buying at each stall. As some customers pointed out, there’s always presents to buy even if we’re spending a little less on ourselves, and the market is the perfect place to get something special. I think it’s safe to say it went as well as could be expected for a rainy day in March and we are all looking forward to another year of Arts Market. See you April 25th!
